Label: Critical Mass
Country: United Kingdom
Release Date: 2006.08.07
With a series of critically acclaimed singles under its belt, one of the most talked about electronic bands in the UK releases its debut album ‘Cicada’. The band comprises Aaron Gilbert (also known as Mr Natural), Alex Payne, and Icelandic vocalist, Heidrun Bjornsdottir (formerly of Gloss and Gus Gus). Alex and Aaron have a wealth of experience in producing, making music, and running labels. Both were born out of the electronic scene, but with an equal dislike of musical boundaries – hence their cross-genre forays. They have been making an impact for some time and have quickly gained a reputation as one of the finest alternative remixers in the business, taking in Seelenluft, Depeche Mode, New Order and Mish Mash amongst others, and when rock bands need a deft electronic touch it’s often to Cicada that they turn. Their previous releases “Things U Say”, “Cut Right Through” and “Electric Blue” (all deleted and much sought after) have all created a frenzy in the music press with comments such as ‘Do these guys ever put in a below par performance? I doubt it. Here they drop The Year of Cicada is nigh’ (Update). Utilising live instruments and old skool synths moogs, Junos, Jupiters and Linn drums as well as guitars, ‘Cicada’ has a sound all of its own. The roll call above gives an indication of where their sound lies, but you won’t currently find it on any musical map. (by djdownload)
